CGN Group Is First Italian Company To Put Swarm Object Storage Into Production

Italian leader in the business-to-business tax and labor law consultancy sector will use the DataCore solution to power storage dedicated to a distributed document archiving application

MILAN – January 11, 2022 – DataCore Software, the largest independent provider of software-defined storage solutions, announced that the CGN Group will be the first Italian company to put its Swarm object storage into production.

The CGN Group is the most important player in the Italian market for business-to-business tax and labor law consultancy, consisting of eight companies and one association. It is based in Pordenone, in the Veneto Region, employs 260 people, and works with more than 25,000 accounting firms throughout Italy. Among its activities are consultancy, software for professional offices, and training through the Unoformat professional school.

DataCore Swarm is an on-premises object storage solution that radically simplifies the ability to manage, store, and secure data by allowing S3/HTTP access to any application, device, or end user. Swarm transforms the data archive into a flexible and readily accessible content library that enables remote workflows, on-demand access, and massive scalability.

Swarm will be used as storage for a specific document archiving vertical application, which was developed internally by the CGN Group. The distributed software consists of a balanced application backend, an SQL component, and a file system for file storage. The number of documents handled by the CGN Group has increased abundantly and has exceeded 100 million files. In this context, Swarm represents a solution that is easy to scale and allows users unlimited storage capacity, even in the long term.

Robustness and reliability were other primary needs of the CGN Group, and the DataCore object storage solution offered the resilience and availability that the document archiving system required. The possibility of using the S3 protocol that has become a “de facto” standard and allows the possibility of switching to data archiving in the cloud, even partially, was another Swarm benefit.

The deployment of the DataCore solution will take place in successive stages. The first will be using the new object storage technology for the CGN Group’s 2022 fiscal campaign. At the same time, the migration phase from the company’s current file system-based structure to the new storage will begin. Project should be completed by the end of 2022 with the support of Eurosystem Spa, a DataCore partner that has been collaborating for some time with the CGN Group, who managed and coordinated the project.

“We are excited to have CGN Group among our customers,” said Rémi Bargoing, DataCore country manager for Italy. “This important and consolidated Italian company has been working with DataCore for five years now. This positive experience and the projects carried out together convinced them to embrace Swarm object storage, a solution already consolidated in America and Europe for over 10 years. I am sure that the results will live up to expectations, and that this implementation will be only the first of a long series on the Italian market.”
